The First Women Lawyers: A Comparative Study of Gender, Law and the Legal Professions by Mary Jane Mossman

We are highlighting this 2006 text in honour of International Women’s Day.  This book brings the lives and work of  pioneering and trailblazing women lawyers in the United States, Canada, Britain, Europe, New Zealand, Australia and western Europe to the light.  As Jane Bailey & Katharine Neufeld,  note in their review of this text, (“Gender, Identity and Professionalism:
A Review of The First Women Lawyers by Mary Jane Mossman”, 86 Canadian Bar Review 355, 2007)  “Mossman provides detailed and often infuriating accounts of the sometimes monumental efforts of women to overcome sexist and racist barriers in order to gain access to legal education and to the legal profession.
